Building Leadership Confidence and Clarity
About the Client
Scott is the Chair and Co-Founder of CHAMP1 UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by CHAMP1 disorders. The organisation works to advance clinical research, promote early detection, raise public and medical awareness, and provide both educational and emotional support for affected families.
Although CHAMP1 UK was in its early stages, Scott had already made rapid progress: bringing UK families together and working with international partners to coordinate community efforts, including CHAMP1 Awareness Day. Alongside this voluntary role, he also manages a full-time job and personal commitments.
What They Needed
With the charity growing quickly and the scale of his responsibilities expanding, Scott wanted space to reflect on his leadership and think strategically about how to manage his time, confidence and energy. He approached coaching to explore how to prioritise effectively and focus on the work with the greatest impact; and build his confidence while stepping into a visible leadership role.
What We Did Together
We worked together over four virtual coaching sessions across five months. The sessions provided structured space for reflection and challenge, alongside practical thinking about Scott’s goals, leadership approach and evolving role.
Our work focused on:
Identifying what mattered most to him in his leadership journey
Exploring how to manage competing demands while staying grounded
Building the confidence to speak more openly about his work and connect with new collaborators.
The Impact
Coaching supported Scott to build greater clarity and confidence in his role as a founder and leader. He shared that the experience helped him develop the skills and mindset he now uses in both advocacy and partnership-building, and that he now feels better equipped to talk about his work and lead with intention.
Scott shared: “Three and a half years ago, my daughter's diagnosis changed everything. I didn't set out to be a leader. I just wanted to help. When work is this personal, you often have no clear goals, you just keep going above and beyond to move things forward. Coaching gave me the space to pause. It helped me find a better way to plan and prioritise instead of just reacting. Flóra gave me techniques that quickly became habits. This helped me see that by acknowledging my own achievements, I can achieve even more for the families we support.”
